Under the Motor Vehicles (Third-Party Risks and Compensation Act (Cap.189), Rev. Ed. 2000, every user of a motor vehicle in Singapore must have an insurance policy, which provides him or her with indemnity for legal liabilities arising from death or bodily injuries of a third-party in connection with the use of a motor vehicle on the road. It is an offence to drive or be in charge of a vehicle on a public road without a Motor Car Insurance policy.
